Verification and Moderation Requirements

To maintain the integrity and credibility of all FowlSlam challenges, every submission must meet the requirements below. Submissions that do not meet these standards will not be accepted.

Universal submission requirements

Every submission must include all of the following:

  • Submission by the account holder completing the challenge
  • Selection of the correct challenge at the time of submission
  • Accurate species or location selection (based on challenge type)
  • Original photo evidence taken by the submitting member
  • Compliance with all photo, identification, location, and date requirements listed below

Mandatory photo evidence (all challenges)

Each submission must include the following images:

  • Member verification photo: An image clearly showing the submitting member physically holding the bird.
  • Species identification photo: A clear, close-up image of the bird showing key identification features (plumage, markings, size, or distinguishing characteristics).

Images must be clear, in focus, and unaltered in a way that affects identification. Excessive cropping, filters, or image manipulation may result in rejection.

Hunting Grand Slam – species verification

  • The harvested bird must be clearly visible in both required images.
  • The species must be identifiable without speculation.
  • Group photos are allowed only if the claimed species is clearly distinguishable.
  • Each species may only be counted once per challenge unless stated otherwise.

Photography Grand Slam – species verification

  • The bird must be alive and photographed in the wild.
  • Captive, staged, zoo, or artificial settings are not allowed.
  • The species must be clearly identifiable from the submitted images.
  • Each species may only be counted once per challenge unless stated otherwise.

Hunting Circuit – location verification

In addition to the mandatory photo requirements, location-based challenges require clear proof of location.

  • The submitted images must include location-supporting context.
  • Acceptable location verification methods include one or more of the following:
    • Distinct natural landmarks or recognizable terrain
    • Clearly visible signage (state, province, territory, or public land signage)
    • Habitat that is consistent with the claimed location
    • GPS or device location metadata (when available)
  • The entry must be submitted under the correct state, province, territory, or country.
  • Multiple harvests from the same location count as a single location entry.

Date verification requirements

All submissions must be date-accurate and reflect when the activity occurred.

  • The submitted date must match the actual date the photo was taken.
  • Moderation may use the following to verify date accuracy:
    • Image metadata (EXIF data) when available
    • File upload timestamps
    • Consistency across submitted images
  • Entries submitted with incorrect or misleading dates may be rejected.

Submission integrity rules

  • Images must be original and owned by the submitting member.
  • Third-party, shared, borrowed, or previously published images are not allowed.
  • Duplicate submissions for the same requirement will be rejected.
  • False or misleading submissions may result in removal from challenges or account action.

Moderation outcomes

  • Accepted: Entry meets all requirements and counts toward progress.
  • Needs clarification: Additional images or information may be requested.
  • Rejected: Entry does not meet requirements and does not count.
